We have an incredibly low minimum for custom orders. This means that we can keep the cost to you lower than other custom spring manufacturers!

The more detail you provide, the faster and more accurate your quote. For most springs, it helps to have:

  • Wire diameter
  • Outside or inside diameter
  • Free length (compression) or overall length (extension)
  • Number of coils and end type
  • Material and finish
  • Quantity needed

The right material depends on your load, operating temperature, and environment; corrosion resistance, conductivity, and fatigue life all factor in. Common spring materials include:

  • Music wire and hard-drawn carbon steel for general-purpose, cost-sensitive work
  • Stainless steel (302, 316, 17-7) for corrosion resistance and medical applications
  • Chrome silicon and chrome vanadium for high-stress, high-cycle use
  • Inconel and other nickel alloys for high-temperature and oilfield environments
  • Phosphor bronze and beryllium copper where electrical conductivity matters

Absolutely! This is all too common – springs that are overstressed will break or fail due to other environmental conditions in an otherwise functional piece of equipment. We are here for you! At Leeco, we can recreate your spring from pieces to production and get you back in business!

There are two common differences; the ends and the pitch.

On an extension spring, the end coils are typically turned perpendicular to the body to create either hooks or loops.

A compression spring will have either plain, closed or closed and ground ends.

The other main difference is that extension springs are tight wound; that is without spacing between the coils. While in service, an extension spring’s coils will begin to pull apart (or extend).

As with other types of springs, both extension and compression springs have limitless applications.

A torsion spring stores energy by twisting rather than compressing or stretching. Instead of pushing back along its length, it delivers a rotational (torque) force when its legs are rotated around the coil axis. You’ll find them in hinges, garage doors, clothespins, and any mechanism that needs to snap back to position after being turned.

If your application calls for rotational force, a torsion spring is likely what you need. If you’re not certain, send us your specs and we’ll confirm the right type for the job.

Yes. Beyond compression, extension, and torsion springs, Leeco produces custom wire forms: bent and shaped wire components like hooks, clips, brackets, rings, and formed assemblies. If your part starts as a length of wire and needs to be shaped to a spec, we can make it. Send a sample or a drawing and we’ll quote it.

Spring specs come with their own vocabulary, and getting the terms right keeps quoting and production accurate. A few of the basics:

  • Pitch: the spacing between adjacent coils
  • Free length: the length of a compression spring when no force is applied
  • Solid height: the length when the spring is fully compressed and the coils touch
  • Spring rate: how much force it takes to deflect the spring a given distance
